Koshini 1 & 2
2 has handles which can't be hidden using CutOut Opacity, they just go black (are there other ways?)
The Cutout Opacity needs to be hidden on the handle's surface on the Toon Outline geometry shell as well as on the figure itself.
Koshini 1
Hi, I'm using Vikcy 9 and I think something doesnt right for the toon shaders. Any advise?
Is this Filament? Haven't tried it yet, but that looks like how I imagine Filatoon shaders might render in Iray
Having fun with UltraScenery 2 together with 5 different Genesis 9 characters plus Labrador rendered with FilaToon.
That looks very good and great to know it works with Ultrascenery.
Fantastic renders, all of you! This is... it's... it's a
Very Cool Revolution!!!
Thanks so much for this tip! This was driving me crazy.
That's a gamechanger!
Ah yes, of course - when hidden, they show up again when you apply the Outline, so they're on the shell. You can also just set them to "off" on the Parameters tab, I can see. Thanks!
There also is an issue with a kind of shadow from the Eyebrow Trans on Koshini 2 though, if you use Glossy. Koshini1 doesn't have this issue.
So all in all I think Koshini 1 looks better with FilaToon, and is also easier to work with.
It doesn't look like you're getting that "flat toon" look like with most FilaToon renders. Are you using the lastest version of Daz Studio? I know that FilaToon looks different in older versions of Daz Studio.
Doesn't the "FilaToon - Hair" preset do that automatically? I'm using that, here's a Koshini hair before and after applying it. Or does that only work with some hairs?
It's DS 4.23. I'm often adding a little gloss, they do look flat before that. Of course, the eyebrow issue isn't there if I don't do that.
BTW, that "FilaToon - Hair" shader also works fine for Transmapped hairs in Iray, just apply the Iray Uber shader afterwards.
Sadly no, it removes all the trans maps, I believe - you can see the skullcap/cap on that Koshini hair (looks a bit like bangs, but I'm pretty sure it's the cap). Try it on some non-toon hair and the issue with no trans maps is a bit more noticeable.
Well it does look like on the promo. If I use the FilaToon Base and then add the Transmap it looks weird. But maybe I'm doing something wrong. In any case, not going to mess with this more now, too confusing.
Thanks!
Thank you! (The mic was originally there, but I deleted it to have a simpler render... )
And thanks so much for the tips for the transmapped hair and for improving the pixelation of the shadows! I put them to use immediately. They're fantastic!
Artini Love how you used UltraScenery! I totally thought it wouldn't work with filatoon - now I'll definitely try it out when I can.
HighElf Your supergirl in halftone looks really fun! Nicely done!
Loving all the renders and insights!! Thanks everyone for sharing!
Decided to make my way towards attempting different styles with filatoon. I'm so loving how easy and flexible it is, especially thanks to all the helpful tips and insights in this thread. I used 3Diva's tip on transmapped hair and shadows in this one. By increasing the Shadow Map Size in filament's draw settings>environment to even just 2048, the shadows smooth out a lot.
Moonlight
That is just fabulous!
Are you sure that's the correct texture? That transmap looks like it'd be way too thin even with normal shaders.
Thanks. There is so much more to explore with FilaToon renders of UltraScenery 2.
Thanks a lot.
Your recent image is just fabulous.
Where can we learn about the filament draw options ?... With many of the options you can instantly see the effects but there are also many shadow options where i'm not seeing any change to shadows.
Thanks.
Edit: i was hung up on trying to finesse the shadow side of an object where as these settings effect the shadow cast by objects.
One challenge with FilaToon US2 is grass. Trying to fill in enough grass without getting glitches is... challenging.
After working on it, what I've discovered is you REALLY want to lean on Mask Builder to limit instances to camera view; the culling tech doesn't apply to previews, I don't think. Or at least not hard enough.
Anyone know of any recommended addons for postwork along the lines of Basic Depth Map Maker by 3DU? I've already had some success with using the standard iray depth map, but I haven't been able to get any decent results from the iray ambient occlusion pass.
D-force hair and fur. Are we any closer to figuring out how to brute force that into working with Filatoon?
It's actually really easy: set tesselation to 3, maybe change the color of the outline geoshell. I've also reduced the mesh offset of the outline geoshell quite a bit.
I guess I'm dumb because I cannot for the life of me get this to work. I've tried adding the FilaToon base to the character, or outline, and cannot get anything to work right. I've tried Vicky9 and she's completely black. I want to turn some of my existing characters into toons but I can't get any results.
I've read through the forum here and don't see a procedure from beginning to end to get the results I need. Can someone help, starting with "I've added a character into Daz Studio.
Sorry I'm so pathetic.
