    Don't remember.

It was already installed in the beta (I have been using the beta for like a year (upgrading with each new version) before this upgrade. Usually I don't have to reinstall.

It worked for me on the beta as soon as I installed it.  Unfortunately, it didn't work for me on the regular version of DS.  I had to copy over some files in the C:\Users\[me]\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\Studio4 Public Build\GenX2 to C:\Users\[me]\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\Studio4\GenX2 and then it worked in the regular version as well.

Hopefully someone will pick up the torch. They will either have to contact the family about picking up his work where he left off (which, would be great but it is too soon, probably, to contact for bereivement purposes and will cost money as it is only fair to recompense the family for his work) or for somone to start fresh.

Likely we will not have a GenX covertor for Gen 8 any time soon. :(

    Yes indeed.

Very sad to hear of the passing of this very valued community member.

    Condolences to family & friends.

I am sure a lot of folk value this software & hopefully someone will be able to pick it up & continue to develop it at the appropriate time.

Very sad to read of Ralf's passing - my condolences to his family.

If GenX/X2 is never further developed it would be a shame, but it is still possible to convert morphs with Transfer Utility pretty easily; indeed I did a lot e.g. from Genesis to Genesis 2, and 2 to 3, in the time between the new figure release and the GenX/X2 upgrade to work with them. In fact, reeconverting with GenX/X2 and comparing out of curiosity, I found that the morphs i got with GenX/X2 at max quality were exactly the same as the ones I got from Transfer Utility. While the morphs were the same with TU and GenX/X2, GenX/X2 had the advantage that it maintained (or could maintain, depending on settings) things like limits, step size, morph label (i.e. the dial name visible in the parameters tab as opposed to the internal name of the morph) and display as percent - oh, and formulae/ERC links between morphs. The disadvantage (with a  figure with a lot of morphs) was that GenX/X2 took much longer to start up and configure than Transfer Utility. I actually tend to use Transfer Utility when I only want to convert a few morphs, and it's less time resetting the limits, label etc myself on the conversions than heaving GenX into action, but GenX/X2 when I want to do a whole bunch of morphs together, especially if they have  bunch of ERC links. G3F>G8F Body morphs are especially easy with transfer utility as there's no real shape correction to be done, just the zero pose differennce to allow for. (And while there are some occasions to use transfer utility workflows involving exported objs, some people appear to be using them when there's no need at all.)

DIM shows me an Update on Genesis Generation X2. I'm wondering whether someone has taken over or whether DAZ is ensuring proper function here?

i was actually trying to use genX2 right before the update.  some elements of the interface weren't appearing.  so i was getting 'invalid path' errors, but i couldn't set paths.

after the update, it works fine, though.  thank goodness.

    :)

If I'm not wrong, the original author of the plugin recently passed away... So I think we will wait a very long time before someone else could have the chance to develop a new version...

Yes, unfortunately D3D passed away a few weeks ago.

There is an update which came out today,  which had been hanging in limbo "While things were sorted out"  It was filed shortly before Ralf passed away.

Dimension3D had submited the update shortly before passing away, and it hung in limbo for a bit while 'things were sorted out' before going out today.
Then the update notes were put on the wrong readme....

     2017-06-20 - v2.1.1 Bugfixes:
formulas were not included for transfers between G2F and G2M
morphs were not loaded if vertex_count was set to -1
morphs were not loaded if URL references had different upper/lower case spelling
possible crash when mixing actor names with and without colon for Poser morph injections
crash when transferring morph after canceling transfer with properties dialog

Wonder if someone could somehow get the source code to continue the project?

Thanks for taking the trouble to enlighten us on all that, Chohole. Sleep peacefully, Ralf.

Can anyone help me? It's saying there is no geometry definition found for any of the Genesis figures.

edit: Never mind. It doesn't properly setup custom Connect folders. I changed the ini file and it now shows up.

I'm considering doing something similar from scratch. Just considering it at this point, mind you.

FYI, Ralf's brother, Patrick, told me that they have his computer but no one in the family knows the software.

  • Well, here is hoping they will allow someone who knows what they are doing with it ( not me :00 ) to continue it's development.

I am probably going to hold off on more V8 stuff unless they come out with a GenX type program or update Gen X accordingly. Too many characters and morphs to leave behind.

My conolences to the family. He was an invaluable member of this community. I hope Daz3D will honor his legacy with Genesis 8.

I know wonderful D3D has passed away ,so I need information from other GenX2 users ....I've run into an issue with morphs that have the same name  ,like "Face Round" ( for example) in the morph list it has a 9 next to it ,well I figured out that means there are nine morphs with that same name from different figures....... the question is  Can I change the names ,add a number or letter to make them different  ?or shouldI delete them? Cause they are not usable as is they mulitply themselves

Click on the options icon (the 4 horizontal lines) next to the Parameters tab, and uncheck "Consolidate Properties". You should now be able to edit them individually.

You can change the way that DS displays them in one listing like that, but lumping properties with the same name together is extremely useful in editing them all at once in other situations. You may want to change it back when you're done making the name changes.

    Hope this helps.

That's an excellent tip! I always have mine on Consolidate Properties, and I've had the same problem with same-named morphs.

I thought of you and our recent discussion, though I'm still thinking I should address the issue in other ways, too.

Agreed. I was thinking of that too, because it was fresh in my mind. That is not the only time I've had this issue, though, so this tip was of general good use to me.  Thanks.smiley

Okay so you are saying that I can change the name of the individual morphs that have the same names ......forgive me for being dense ,usually I go into the  main data file and change things there ...just learned how to change things inthe parameters .. .....thank you

If you can move them up to G3f then you can move them to G8f.  There is a thread with directions on how to move the G3F character morphs up to G8F with easy intructions on how to make the clone to make that happen....

Cool! Can you point me towards the thread? :)
