I've been experimenting with several things at once. Gamma setting at 2.2 (never used it before, but read in a thread that for 3Delight it's supposed to be standard). Doubled the bump strength (trying to get a more natural light effect on the skin-not sure about the result). Also trying to improve my portrait lighting rig.
This Olympia 6 (.5) with her HD at 100%, mixed with Nidale (.25) and Teen Josie (.25). Nidale textures. I played around with the Subsurface settings-too much Velvet but (shrugs).

JeanZ Skirt for Genesis and Genesis 2 Female(s)

One thing I like about this is the way the lighting and Gamma makes the clothing textures "pop". :)

It looks good. I am curious what it looks without the gamma so we can compare to see what it does. =-)

I saw it yesterday- Kharma did some gamma over on her art studio thread too. Everyone check it out :)

Okay, I'm shopping just in case there was something that wasn't on my wishlist. I did find a good deal- not quite like the cheap swimsuit with a pool, but look at this:
    $19.95 for $7.98, it's 60% off:

    She Rogue For V4 Bodysuit
    http://www.daz3d.com/sherogue-for-v4-bodysuit
SheRogue is a new material set for the V4 Bodysuit, that also includes a dagger, the FM Hunting Crossbow and appropriate poses.

I like that it has four color options, including a "no belly button" option- it's covered- and the materials are nice. The 12 style options let you easily adjust the neckline (yes!!!) sleeves, go without the pants, etc. The dagger and sheath poses are nice, and the crossbow comes in three colors. All that for under $8. (Just the crossbow is $4)

Teaser, teaser.....Totte is not en absentia...he is doing a fantastic render that has taken 35 hours and still going......
Have you posted that anywhere Totte? Inquiring minds want to know.

someone educate me- what exactly does Gamma do?
Tjohn, did you test it without the bump increased?

Here's one on my wishlist that is 60% off- anyone ever used it?

BTW, DM Instances in Fast Grab has a lot of things I have used. That wagon wheel is good for country scenes, the stuff goes good with that Garbage Pile product too. AND IT HAS 40 POSES. Only $5.69 (70% off)
EDIT: Come on people, proofread!!!! BOULDER. Must be the same person who loves those "Angles" instead of angels! So instead, they have a very brash, courageous rock.

If you refer back to the post:

You'll see that I've added one with the Gamma and Bump at default.

No, I didn't. I was trying to figure out how Hellboy gets such great results with skin textures; I thought maybe it had something to do with bumo settings. Maybe it's just his enormous talent. :)

In trying to make the render requested, I kept getting the image below. It appeared to be that DS thought that I had the renderer set to "Toon" even though it was on "Default". (Cue Twilight Zone music)

Edit. After seeing the results, It appears that Gamma gives you less contrast in the render. After seeing the two renders side-by-side, I believe I would like to blend the images together in PSE.
As far as what it's for, Gamma of 2.2 is supposed to be the industry standard for setting up "correct" Color, Luminence, Tint, etc. on monitors. But your monitor may be "off" from standard. Looks like mine is.

    Sporty Braid

    Other content Used
    Bree (Genesis 1 & 2 starter essentials)
    Rogue Sci-fi Suit (Stonemason)
    Portrait Artist’s Background (Diane)
    Luxury Fabric shaders (Daz3d, JGreenless

This is a nice simple braided hairstyle for females. =-) It includes a number of morphs to adjust the hairline and raise the braid. The hair is easy to bend to give the illusion of movement, motion or breeze. It is a nice practical hairdo for women and girls.

Downside: I didn’t like the way the scrunchie/tie rendered. I ended up recoloring mine using a luxury fabric shader because of the white glossy shine. You can see in image 4.

Overall, a nice hairstyle I know I will use often.

    Images

    1. Bending the hair using the 'side to side' braid option.
    2. Long and straight
    3. Shorter style
    4. Rear view
    5. Odd scrunchie texture.

TJohn: I like both of your initial images. The first because of the nice rim of light blue which gives an interesting glow, and the second has a nice rich red clay tone to the skin which is quite well done.

Do you remember if the braid has a bend option for the middle of it?
I like the background, seems a bit vintage.

If you ever want a good, solemn stare on your Generation 6 characters, try Expressive for GENESIS- it works great- number 03.
My Oceana (pronounced Oh-see-ah-nah) character is getting rid of a few pests in a render, and that expression worked great. :)

Diane's pack was on my wishlsit for some time. It is a good investment with many easy textures to use.

I uploaded an image which includes the hair bending. It is the first one in the review which is where it loaded.

The hair has 4 joints braid 1-4. Those have a 'side to side' option which could be used in small degrees to look more bendy.

Tday I'm gonna take a look at Shattered by Dogz.
At first look I thought this looks useful, and it went into the cart before I could blink my eyes.
I played with it for a render for the PC Weekly, where I put a volleyball through the kids bedroom window.

Then I decided to make a render with a little more quality and lights, let a bad guy fly through the glass of a typical industrial door.
The first test renders I made did show the classical marks of too low Maximum Trace Level, I had it at 2 and I got several of those "grey splotches" instead of transparency as the rays trace maximum levels were exceeded. So I took a closer look at the scene and calculated how many levels of glass surfaces do the rays need to go through and came up with 8, which I will now explain why it was a way too high number.

The image with the guy and the girl with headphones took 53 hours to render on my 3GHz 8 Core monster, which usually chews complex renders for breakfast.

Here is the full scene (shrunk down to width 600 px from 1200 px. I also added a version where I marked the part that took about 52 of those 53 hours of rendering, and a closeup of that area. It does look good, but I'm sure I could have done it with less trace levels. A few grey splotches no one would have noticed anyway.

So, Is this all of it? No, it isn't. As this prop is some of the coolest props I have in my content collection, I decided to boldly go where I haven't gone before, animation. I setup a short animation, Matrix-style, and rendered it with just trace level 2. The result is now on Youtube for you to see. It's just 4 seconds but it rendered at 1 minute per frame, compared to 53 hours for that other scene. OK, the other was four times the pixels.

    Have fun!

@no one in particular. I'll probably pick up Amon and thinking about Aftermath.

Oh, I see. To receive the most benefit of the 50% off sale, the best thing to do appears to be to purchase 1 item from the new releases and to purchase only items at 50% off for the remainder. Since the sale calculates off original price, you can get a good deal on the items at 50%

    UGH. Thanks a lot Totte!

I'm working on the RRRR, just used Ron's Waterline brushes for the first time. The render will be up shortly over in the RRRR thread. One final render to close up the segment.

Thanks, Totte, for the Shattered Review. It is on my wish list but 53 hours is a long render time. It would kill my computer. I love your render though and the little animation is cool.

tjohn, Ribbits has been sitting in my cart all day as I like extreme morphs too. I look forward to seeing more renders. He even has toad textures but I didn't see them in the promos. The one thing I didn't like is the long neck, doesn't look very froggy from a lot angles. Can that be shortened any?

I don't find Ribbits so "hot" either, but not much else to my liking. I hope Male Media releases his new one soon. We really need some good characters for the G2 male. (Hopefully with good nose morphs.)

Just posted this image over in the RRRR thread. One more to go, deadline tomorrow so I'm going to go "poof" myself for awhile. I'll post a bit of discussion on some of the things once this is all over. The Oceana uses V3 items on V6- beautifully. That's what I was alluding to a week or so ago.

My first time using the Waterline brushes, I had fun making the water. Would have used more postwork (making the octopus wet) but wanted to limit the postwork. It would have been too overwhelming too. I am very proud of this render, it was time consuming with all the posing, tentacles, lighting, waterwork, and creating Oceana. (a couple weeks.)

Be sure and pop over and take a look at what Luci did- love the format!

Looking at the Ribbits morph, I see it less as a long neck than the vocal sac that male frogs have that they inflate in order to croak (no inflate morph though). Here you see the Brown Toad texture. I put Ribbits into a more "froggy" pose so you can see better what I mean about the neck.

There's actually not much too add about Ribbits, so I'll call this my Review.

    Product Review
    Ribbits for Genesis by JoeQuick
    http://www.daz3d.com/new-releases/ribbits-for-genesis

Things I like about this product: Well it's a frog. I like frogs. :) There's a nice choice of textures, most poses work with just a bit of adjustment; clothes fit well.
Things I would like to see: There is no "Actor" or "Character" preset. You load a basic Genesis figure and use a slider in the Shaping pane to add the morph, then load the material preset of your choice. There are other Genesis characters that work this way, but I prefer the preset push-button method (I'm lazy).
I would also like to see a pose set specific to the character. Perhaps that's in the works?
I recommend this Product for those who like uniqueness in their Genesis gene-pool. :)

Thanks for posting the toad texture and the different views. He's kind of cute but I just don't like the head and neck. Too much loose skin underneath - the vocal sack only enlarges when they are croaking. It has to be hard making an upright figure out of a four-legged animal. The attached photo show the kind of frog chins I remember - I played with a lot of them when I was a child. :cheese:

Novica, I love this one! Great color and action! Oceana's outfit looks great! :-) Did you convert the V3 stuff with some utility?

I did the comic book format because I just don't like to write anything more than a few paragraphs. This turned out to be pretty time-consuming though too, especially because I haven't done one before.

    Thanks for the review TJohn.

I think it is good that you mention the lack of actor. That can be a problem for me as well, especially when I'm not certain which base character to use to get the look of the character being sold. Do I use v6, M6 or base male, or base female?

Let me take a break from my last RRRR (before I collapse from RRRR-ed-ness) and share what that outfit is. There's some great kit-bashing to be had, and an item I had not given a second look until I just starting playing around trying to find a perfect Oceana outfit. The V3 stuff went out WITHOUT MAJOR ADJUSTMENTS onto the V6 figure- but the bracelets would not stay put, even with parenting. That was the only troublesome aspect. I was tickled! I'll post some closeups of Oceana soon so you can see (studio is tied up at the moment.)

This was confusing to figure out, so let me spell out what does what-

    Princess Of Atlantis (V4, V3)
    Required:
The V4 Fantasy Collar Set for the NECKLACE
The V3 Morphing Face Mask for the TIARA (went on with just a bit of tweaking, like scaling and translating. Took 2 minutes to fit to V6 !!!)
The V4 Hooded Cloak for the CLOAK
V4 Morphing Fantasy Dress for the OUTFIT. It's amazing to see parts just disappear!

    http://www.daz3d.com/v3-morphing-face-mask
    http://www.daz3d.com/v4-hooded-cloak

(Check out all theseV3 Morphing Face Mask cool things that (should) work too.)
    http://www.daz3d.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=V3+Fantasy+Mask&x=0&y=0

I put a bodysuit on under the outfit :) That took a bit of time to figure out what I was doing, but I figured the shells over the bosom was a bit revealing if I wanted to use this for a kid's book. That outfit can be very sexy and I was thrilled to find it. ALL ARE PC ITEMS AND $1.99 a piece!
