Will one of my thread surfers check this link and see if you get a 404 not found, or is the page there?
EDIT: it's working, never mind. They changed the link.

    The Old Railway (Dogz)

    http://www.daz3d.com/the-old-railway

Just putzing with some minu render test shots. Used Skull Cove for the lighting and added one distant shot front, 27%. It could be brighter.
You get a lot of props with this set.

I clicked on the beech tree prop and it says Maple in the Scene tab. Huh. 20 minutes for 60% so not a fast render. Used the same lights as the Rowan tree. Still rendering. Will be next post.

EDIT: Will have to see why those tree trunks are going white, I turned down the lights. There are different material options for the trees, so just be aware that if you light your gravel/tracks correctly, you may have to do something with the trunks/select a darker option. I think there was a white birch default on some of these. The leaves of the trees in these renders could use some more lights, but that would really whack the trunks. These are just test renders and I have other things to do, so not going to play with it other than the one tree that is rendering now.

There's certainly a lot of leaves- took about 26 minutes to render with .30 shading rate, but this was a small render at only 600 pixels- and frankly some of the leaves look like they are in a wind tunnel vortex swirling around in a circle for no reason. So I'd say good for medium to distant shots, but not for closeups IMO. EDIT: Leaves look flat, squished.

You do get a lot of props with the railroad.

    Dragon's Tower (DAZ3D / Nathy)
    http://www.daz3d.com/cyngen-epic-dragon-s-tower

Well, peek-a-boo, this actually has an interior. A very narrow interior, so you can go into Scene and adjust your camera angle width.
This was with a dull spotlight on 60%, just wanted to show that the spiral stairs existed. The wood grain isn't at all impressive, but it of course wasn't meant to be the main feature anyway.

I have to say the closeups hold up rather well- nothing blurry. So keep the facade in mind if you need a good backdrop wall.

I didn't put in a backdrop, just checking lighting today. (and textures.)

Full tower is Skull Cove Salmon sunset, with additional lights (distant lights.) For sunsets, my top lights are Skull Cover, Ruins of Angkor Wat, and Easy Environments: The Oasis. What are your favorites for that wonderful rosy glow at sunset? (I'm trying to remember some of Predatron's, and the Essential Skies lights..)

FOR EXTREME CLOSEUPS: Renders quickly too. 25% at a minute and a half (doing part of the building, before that it was mostly sky) 30% at 2 minutes and it's doing the mountain- 39% at 3 minutes. 45% at 3:40.

For the last one, less than 3 minutes. So distant shots go ULTRA fast.

This mountain certainly looks like an elephant skin. Is that what texture artists use?

Anyone with renders of Dragon's Tower feel free to post.
EDIT: THE LAST THREE ARE LARGE- click to enlarge/click again for stone/mountain detail.

    Good morning :)
Well, as a couple of us mentioned, did we want to wait and hold onto the punch rewards, or spend during the PA sale, not knowing what DO items would be available before Sunday...

So I held off and am glad I did. Today has a slew of DO new releases, and there were several winter things I didn't have (and a few spooky) so I got 17 things for under $4. Below is a screenshot of PART of the order. All the .99 things went to .11- it was fun to see!

I think the Janna Little Devil Expansion will be good for Halloween parties and YEAH!!!!!! Darkwoods Hero for males!!! :) WHOOOSH into the cart. I can't use the Gypsy, have enough of those midriff baring outfits, and anyway, the back of the cloak seems weird to me, aka, starchy stiff. Might just be the promos. Anyone who buys it feel free to share.

Kudos DAZ, good sale so far!

I guess Fast Grab isn't going to change during the sale?

It's gorgeous here today, was about 50 degrees last night. Going out to groom the horse as it's still really cool outside. Love the fall in the South. (and no hurricanes this year on the Gulf Coast or East Coast.)

BTW, the hummingbirds left last Thursday to fly to South America. Miss the lil dudes and dudettes. You folks down there please put up your hummer feeders because they'll be exhausted. :)

Good morning to you too Novica (mid-afternoon here now).

Thanks for showing us the Old Railway and the Dragon's Tower products. Dogz is one of those vendors I feel I can trust for quality, no matter what the product. I like Nathy's tower because it can be used for far-off scenes as well as closer-up. There aren't many 'high' products in the store, Jack's lighthouse is the other one that comes to mind.

It looks like you had a good haul this morning, those prices are very nice! I enjoyed the promos for blondie9999's poses, they look a lot of fun and full of action. It will be good to hear what you think of them now you own them.

Yes, Fast Grab tends to get neglected during these big sales. Too much else going on.

    Hi Jindi :)
I have the rest of that train setup, and I'll be doing sections of it later today/in the next few days. I just used DIM and installed the stuff I bought today and will also try to render some of that. Have you bought anything in the sale so far?

I'm doing ZBrush at the same time, and wanted folks to take a peek at this video, which I put in the ZBrush thread (here in Art Studio) because this video REALLY shows how easy ZBrush can get you started. I try to render while doing the videos but sometimes they lag.

This guy isn't a professional, he just has so much FUN sharing what he knows. We all enjoy him. If I understand correctly, using ZSpheres, you get perfect quads!

I had saved the Kim for Lee 6 scene (lights already set up) so I put the Darkwoods outfit on him. One thing I do not like at all is the Pauldron sticking up, and there's no separate material zone for it. Will probably take awhile to render but I have a few things to do before heading to the barn, so I'll try to post it before I leave. I am doing it without the pauldron first.

Kim For Lee 6 ( DAZ3D Countess Silver)
    Darkwoods Hero for Genesis 2 Male(s) (DAZ3D / Bobbie25 / Sarsa)
Kung Fu Hair for Genesis 2 Male(s) (DAZ3D / Goldtassel)

Will do it with the shoulder attachment (Pauldron) and attach it here. (Edit- Done.) I'm still doing ZBrush so the horse will have to wait :) (You would LOVE Zbrush, you can't put it down once you start playing.)

EDIT: BTW, the outfit renders fast, as does the Kung Fu Hair. Highly recommend both for speed.

    Tavern Dining Hall Poses ( DAZ3D / Blondie9999)
    BWC Powerful Gia Poses (Sedor)
Expressions for Teen Josie (DAZ3D / Diane)

    http://www.daz3d.com/bwc-powerful-gia-poses
    http://www.daz3d.com/expressions-for-teen-josie

One thing about these poses- they go great with the Powerful Gia Poses. You can have your gal defending the male who just got knocked on his duff (or who is too drunk to defend himself from bullies.) The Gia poses work well on all figures, this is Mallory again in the Fair Corsair outfit shown previously. I was looking at the Darkwoods outfit and thought, "Hmm, Fair Corsair would look good with that." Except for the boots, as you know I hate the impractical high heels. Bare midriffs I can deal with, but those boots...(EDIT: and of course, there wasn't any pose fix for them. They are wonky. I tried parenting to each foot, no luck.)

I really like the Josie expressions. They work well on all the G2Fs. You can see it on Mallory in the scene (Josie Mean at .65) LOL- little Josie (expressions) teaming up with powerful Gia (poses) means trouble!

Obviously the discount is much better if you are PC+ rather than PC, I put some new releases and some .99 items in my cart, 18 products in total, used my 20.00 coupon for DO's from PA sale and my grand total is still $29.63. Either PC isn't getting a great disount this sale or you are a much better shopper than I Novica...LOL :)

Kharma, I'm curious- what are your prices like? These are PC+. How long do you have on your PC membership before you have to switch? It might be worthwhile to change over (because of the Nov/Dec sales coming up too.)

EDIT: To see those bottom prices, you have to put the zoom tool down in the very corners.

About half an hour ago. The first one, Ariella, goes to $2.99. Nice deal!
Of course, I didn't see it when I did my shopping, so all I did was put Janna back in the cart (for $2.23, big deal, just buy her again.)

I've found the beta site great for finding out what you already own. I don't buy through it but have it open in a separate window. It is a bit worrying when you suddenly only see 20 out of 50 products!

Items that caught my eye (not already on my wishlist)
    Zena V4 $3.59

    Anouk $2.79

A bit of a change up, with light being the focus from behind and the face in complete shadow. Thought it would be fun to have the backdrop lighting be brighter on one side with the lighting coming from behind being the focus. Also, it shows you the material of the sleeve really well. Grab the Just Jokin while it's on sale, it's a great outfit. This is all Genesis, all on sale in the V4/M4 sale- but made for Genesis. Scoop 'em up!

I picked up Alisha for V4 and Genesis, and the Maiden Fair Dynamic Gown (curious to see how well it works on Genesis and Genesis 2 figures). Got Agnes in the cart now...still thinking it over, because if I buy more now I'll be out of funds until next month...

There is some good content in the m4/v4 sale. Some stuff that never goes on sale it seems, by different vendors.

I like Alexa V4 http://www.daz3d.com/alexa-for-v4 she nice facial features and high res mats. I already bought some hair and poses yesterday.

The interesting thing is the list seems to change. I see stuff on there that wasn't on there a few hours ago.

The sale will wipe me out budgetwise pretty soon, sad to say.

It also says PC Sale V4/M4 Category 1 at the top. That hints to me that there could be different selections each week...

I'm probably just not as astute, but I'm not seeing anything that wasn't in there yesterday when I looked. I gave it quite a bit of scrutiny but was on the beta site and all the things I owned I had eliminated from the results (ya'll will LOVE that feature in the new store. I guess I can mention that now since it has been referenced repeatedly elsewhere outside the member forum. Members are able to give input on the new store features, it's a good time to become a member IMO)

Anyway, yep, I bought Sebastian and am rendering him now. Testing him with the low polygon bungalow set and I have to say I think it does quite well with closeups. Don't know what I was expecting, but I have him sitting on the porch steps and so far the wood of the house seems quite fine to me. He is quite a slow render, I think- the house and the hair have both come in at 15% in 4 minutes, then it's stopping and doing its thing since it has reached the face. (It IS HD though.) Will keep you posted.

I didn't get the hair, doesn't appeal to me.

    15% 4 minutes
    15% 6 minutes
    15% 9 minutes
    15% 13 minutes
canceling, closing and reopening the studio to be sure it's not hung up.

WILL EDIT AND ADD THE TIMES. Am working in ZBrush but will keep you posted. It will be an hour probably (or more) before it's done, and it's only a 528 x 900 pixel render. Will do a new post so those of you who are subscribed to the thread will know when he's up.

EDIT: Restarted, and it's going very slow. I won't be keeping him if it's this slow. I am going to take off the hair and remove the set and see if it is him or something else.

Rendering now- and bald, no set, just the clothes which I have rendered before and they are not the problem- it's been at 6% for seven minutes and not moving, and the 6% is just the backdrop. Nothing of the head is rendering. These are the exact same lights I have used the past two days.

No possibility my studio is acting up, I exited, restarted, yada yada.
Still 6% at 9 minutes. No head started.
Nothing at 11 minutes, still 6%.
    13 minutes, still 6%.

    So testing...
Stopped again, took out Sebastian- clothes rendered in 1:15 seconds.
Added Bold Hair, rendered in under 3 minutes for the hair, and under 5 minutes for the hair and clothes.

So this HD person won't even get started at 13 minutes. It's not my studio, it's functioning fine and renders at a decent rate. I've got to do some things, so I'll start it up AGAIN and let it go for awhile. I'm interested in what other people are experiencing. The shading rate is not even .20, it's at .30. Not ruling out that it could be my computer, but seeing as I just tested Taric and a few other G2Ms and they came in just fine (not HD though) this dude seems really slow for what I normally need.

    FW Sebastian HD (FWArt)
    Bold Hair (DAZ3D)
    Day By Day For Genesis 2 Male(s) ( DAZ3D / Sarsa / Mada)

    http://www.daz3d.com/day-by-day-for-genesis-2-male-s
Read the previous post if you are subscribed to the thread, there is a lot of added comments about the render time for Sebastian.

Okay, so it took 46 minutes to render the hair and the face (it is set to render horizontally, comes in rows)
That's not too bad, once it got started it appeared to go at a steady rate. So just be aware that for fifteen minutes or so, you might see ZERO action on this dude.

74% at 48 minutes- so once it zipped past the head and neck, and got to the clothes, it zipped along. Enjoy Sebastian! :) (without a set.) I like my lights, tweaked just a bit.

As always, love the Day By Day outfit, has a lot of nice material options. And the Bold Hair renders quite quickly- very handy. Nice color options too,
