And more of a closeup (while I was out running errands. Taco Bell....yummy!)
On Sebastian's thread, I asked about a file and about the lag:

Collective 3D Cape Cod Style Home (NFX Studios)
http://www.daz3d.com/collective3d-cape-cod-style-home
The Cape Code home is nice- at 60% in 6 minutes- I think it has nice details. There is a yard, grass/no grass option, a driveway, picket fence, two different facades. I got it during the PA sale.

Just showing the clothing, did not do the body morphs (turns him into a very muscular fighting machine- hunky dude.) The War Dog is the one with those morphs. Shown at Angkor Wat. The Veteran War Dog has nice props too.
Sebastian is one handsome fella. Looks good. I like war dog too. =-)
Of course, now I see this "Our mistake is your gain" 50% off of 3 new releases today only.
May have to return my previous order, and repurchase and get the poses too. Costs the same it looks like.

Well, experimenting. The background is from the Rocks N Drops, the dead trees are from Road To Hell. I am basically lighting and testing the tombstones, as there are over 20 in the set- they are interesting, to say the least. There of course isn't near enough ground plane to accommodate all of them so quite a bit of scaling is required.
I changed the ambient and the diffuse on the backdrop as there really wasn't one that was dark enough to fit the lighting. The lights are all dark gray to dark blue gray. I dimmed down the main key light and brought up the two distant lights' intensities. I wanted the graves to be the focus, with just a hint of the mausoleum steps. However, will play and increase the overall lighting.
There will be more shrubs and trees behind the wall (which isn't completed, but not needed for the camera view) to make the scene. Also will need to add leaves and stuff to the ground.

It also says PC Sale V4/M4 Category 1 at the top. That hints to me that there could be different selections each week...
Just a heads up Novica and Serene Night... the V4/M4 80% off category has changed to Category 7 http://www.daz3d.com/pc-sale-v4-m4-category-7 so lots of new stuff there for you all to look at. (The discounts weren't coming off when I tried but they might have fixed it since.)
In case you hadn't noticed, Adrianna looks like Whitney from Dancing With The Stars. (A few tweaks- needs a very slight chin change and lachrimal/corner of the inner eye pull down.)

I'm rendering the medieval merchant products and testing the various times when I change what's in the scene. Render times are LONG. To do the "veggie room" (the string of veggies hanging) with ALL the other parts of the set gone, it's slow going. Beautiful, of course. I am going to start testing/removing lights and see what impacts that room. Coming up!
Jindi- look at the top (not the URL) and you'll see that is says Sales & Promotions>PC SALE HOLDER>then the V4/M4 Category 7
So I think they put the page up and its not supposed to be active. (And it's not. No discounts.)
That's disappointing. :( I wish they would sort these sales out. Thanks for checking it.
someone pointed out (members section, the thread on the beta site) that the Category 1 says placeholder too!
I opened all the Category 7 pages in different windows and leaving them open, so I can go through them later and see what's there (in case they pull them. I really don't think they were meant to be found/linked. Apparently, as someone said, from the side menu of Fast Grab. I just went in through your post.)
This repetitive screw up routine puzzles me. I had an online business for eight years and modular shopping carts are not difficult when you do the same type of promotions over and over again. This category goes on sale when an item from this category is purchased. Figure it out and write down the settings in the admin panel, rinse and repeat the next time that setup is used.
They also need to change when sales launch, if people aren't there at midnight, don't launch it then. I'd like to see it launched when folks overseas aren't sleeping, and neither are we- so what if it's not midnight?
Heads up, in today's sale- the Winterland product INCLUDES the RPC Volume 2 trees (so don't get them, get Winterland instead for a few bucks more.
Medieval Merchants House (Merlin Studios)
Medieval Merchants House Props (Merlin Studios)
http://www.daz3d.com/medieval-merchants-house
http://www.daz3d.com/medieval-merchants-house-props
Okay, experimented all afternoon (off and on) and you can whack off a SUBSTANTIAL amount of time with knowing what lights go with what, what props are where, etc- and removing the rest.
First of all, what I don't like- the rooms are really small and moving the camera around is a problem even when removing the walls- because of the FLOORS. the furniture and props are right on the edge of them and it's difficult at best to get any kind of shot without that dropoff showing.
I am going to show you the "vegetable room" and tell you what I did and the impact on render time. You can choose which lighting you liked.
With the entire set loaded and all lights, it was a no go. (And not needed. You can't be in all the rooms and outside at the same time anyway.)
So I loaded the complete scene. Then took out all the props that weren't in that room. (Newbies- just click on each prop in the scene tab, you'll see the (what I call) Universal cube with all the arrows showing XYZ translations. If it's not in the scene, neither is your prop. Shut the eye next to the prop to hide it.) So all props hidden except those in the room. I did not turn off the roof or any outside walls except the one blocking my view.
1. Rendered with all the lights.
17 minutes 28%, 22 minutes 45%, 36 minutes 86%, and 40 minutes 95%.
2. Rendered with the last 10 lights turned off (starting with the Bedroom lights- very little light contributing to the scene, or none at all.)
3. Rendered with last 10 turned off but Window Light 01 on. Looks almost like the "all lights on"
4. Same, except turned off Window 01 and turned on Window 02.
For 2-4, turning off those 10 lights- instead of 40 minutes to read 95%, it was 21 minutes.
So I saved the scene as veggie room, and then when I do the other rooms, I will start with this and know to turn the veggie room props off. Once you do the first room, it's easy. The lighting is most noticeable on the back wall, the side of the hutch on the right, and those tall light bottles.
While you're looking at the images, you can mouse over to see which one is which instead of scrolling back up to read it. :)
And in about half an hour, I'll show you how this becomes an outdoor market scene when that wall is removed :) All you have to do is remove another set of floorboards in the distance and voila, you are in an outdoor "patio." :) Rendering now.
@Jindi Thanks for the heads up Jindi! That sale looks promising!
@Novica: I like the hanging 'herb' string. In your medieval merchant home.
So this is with the wall gone, all props still in place. So will need to remove some so it doesn't have indoor cabinets/hutches. So removed those for the second one. Can still remove a few more things (aka, book) but the mini drawers seemed okay to leave. Wall sconces could be changed to outdoor lights.
Did not adjust any lights (the wall on the far left can be toned down.) I think it would be fun to put a fire in the fireplace and render from a different angle.
The problem is the dark lines on the floor that the vendor put in for the wall sections? Ruins it. Can postwork it if you want to, I'm just playing and not messing with it right now. Also note the light coming from around the corner is whitish blue and you would have to eliminate that/change the color.
@SereneNight: I'm glad they fixed it... even though it's tempting me to spend more than I had planned! There's some good stuff in this selection.
@Novica: I love the golden tones of your renders, beautiful for historic scenes, and the hanging border along the top is a nice touch. Removing the wall makes quite a difference, almost like 2 for the price of 1. :)
Quick question for Novica (though you've probably gone to bed).... I know you love the Anemone Hair. Does it work OK with characters other than the V4 generation? (It says it needs 'Little One' but I guess that's not essential).
http://www.daz3d.com/anemone-hair
I'm going to have to pick up Grandiose hair and Anemone hair. Grandiose looks perfect for sci-fi, and the anemone hair is really pretty and I think Novica reviewed that if I'm not mistaken. (?) I also like M4 humble poses. Looks useful.
I'm also really excited about Baryolax shown in the PA forum. That's going to be a must-buy.
I'll have to have a look at the Grandiose hair. Yes, Novica is a big fan of Anemone hair, I know her Annabelle character wears it and it does look very pretty indeed. I'm not sure though whether which figure her Annabel uses as a base. I don't use V4 and some V4 hairs transfer well to other generations but I haven't tried it before with a 3Dream-Mairy one.
The sale gets more interesting when things come out that fit your genre. I can't use all these fantasy outfits and Lilith/dark stuff but I do love the new Winterland.
Thanks- the lighting is all Merlin's. You'll have to turn a lot of them off, depending on what room you are doing, or you add at least 20 minutes to the render time for a medium to smaller sized render. It would be more with the bigger sizes.
Hey, I'm online. An hour twenty minutes in the dentist chair for a root canal :)
I'll go look, I think the Anemone Hair was on Anabelle. (Not sure if I spelled that right.) Let me do some research. And yes, that is one of my very favorite hair products.
http://www.daz3d.com/hot-uniforms-secretary
This is $3.79 and the reason I looked at it is the Hot products often have props. This has the cell phone, notepad, pencil (and fast handposes) but also jewelry- necklace and earrings
Ouch, glad you are back in one piece.
You used anemone hair on Anabelle in the 'stag party with hot girls' render and also your wine walk one.
Is there someone in particular you'd like to test it on? I'm not rendering anything at the moment.
No one in particular, Novica, just curious as to whether it works ok with Genesis and G2F or if it needs a lot of playing with for it to look good?
Nice to see Annabelle again, the hair suits her.
Just checked, the Wine Walk and the one you are seeing is Genesis. Does beautifully, no tweaks.
EDIT I'll go try on G2F. Back in a bit.
Went on Nidale, no tweaks. Rendering now and will post. Didn't do a light pretest though as it is rendering slowly, so no guesses as to how this is going to light with the darker skin. I added one frontal distant light. :) Check back in about half an hour?
Perfect, and yes will check back. I own Nidale (one of my fav G2Fs) so she'll be a good one to see.
Easy smeezy ZERO tweaks (can't see any issues.) Doesn't even do auto fit or anything. Just goes right on. So here's Nidale, a GF2. (And hey, I didn't do bad for no light testing!) (EDIT: That's the setup from my Wine Walk Limbo though- I spent WEEKS on that light setup so just adding one distant light in front to counterbalance the darker skin wasn't much of a brainer.) That is UE2 lighting and 7 linears, four distant lights.
Go Anemone Hair!
Sold! I mostly want it for Genesis but the fact that it goes on G2F so well is a welcome bonus. I'm sure the $3.59 will be well spent. Thanks very much for doing this. I've been rendering my new Victorian Shops.
I can't wait to see what SereneNight is going to do with that Grandiose hair. :)
These are what I didn't have that caught my iinterest. I already have Marisandra Hair and Aoife Hair so picked up the textures.
Note what comes in the artyficial product- poses and props.
