Back to the Frozen Custard/Icecream Stand:
Here are the latest progress shots of the low-poly environment.
When the "billboard" trees are dropped in and they are oriented to the camera, the scene is going to really
start to come together.
Does it remind you of a monopoly board, or maybe Mr Rogers Neighborhood with the low-poly houses?
Would be kind of fun to play with the DOF and get that tilt-shift effect going on.
Test renders of the "Forests Trees and Grass World Building Set"
Status Updates: getting really close
Side render: The Wisdom of Age
"One does not live on bread alone"
Used: Etta HD for Edie 8
Just an idea that I was playing with regarding aged hands and old books
Here are some late stage low resolution renders. I am getting ready to do some final texture adjustments and add the vegetation now that the modeling is complete.
Here are some close up detail shots of the Ted Drewes Signage and a trash bin.
Getting very much closer to a finish.
Side-Render Project
Here is a little side project for a weekly contest. This is the first rough-draft. Need to pull the
concept together by the 6th of August.
In the first round of critiques I would say that I need to do something with the suit the old guy is wearing.
It needs to fall dynamically to look right. Also, I have to play with Angles and poses.
Gotta use one of the poses from this Off Road Adventures Poses set. The leaning pose against
the truck-bed might be good.
^__^
As the Frozen Custard Stand is progressing and coming to resolution, Another project being worked
on in the background is a scene with the Skidmore Fountain in Portland, Oregon. This is being scuplted
in ZBrush. Here is Phase 1 of that project.
I sort of wanted to see the robe and hairdo made in a way that could be applied to a Genesis2 or Genesis3
figure. That would be interesting. I didn't get any takers who could create the hair, although there is a similar
classic style robe in the store.
Bits and pieces coming together!
Now, more time needs to be spent again developing some poses. This time I need a few poses for female figures for the context.
the dish is evolving as s the proportions of the Sculpture of the Skdmore Fountain. I think the detail on the bowl can be handled with a normal map. That will keep the geometry simple.
Icecream Stand Updates
Here is a test render
I have to put some texture on the buildings and simulate some architecture in the far distance as well as coloring up the signage. Nevertheless, it is getting excitingly close to completion.
This project has gone on for a little while and quite a but of effort has went into it.
Coming up soon will be the peopling of the scene. This will include figures inside and outside the restaurant. Inside I will turn the lights on and have the workers working, This stage is quite exciting as it seems things are coming together really well.
Update:
I saw a new product Orestes Iray HDRI Skydomes - Vanilla Evening by Orestes come out and I had to snap it up because it would enhance this project so perfectly!
Also notable, I used Forests Trees and Grass World Building Set, but not right our of the box. I had to go into Hexagon to isolate individual trees. It would be super if the package allowed you to just load one tree at a time.
Test Render of Gabriela 8
The Magician
Made an attempt to put stripes on the X-Fashion After Hours Suit for Genesis 8 Female(s)
Update on Skidmore Fountain
Here is a progress shot from the fountain project. It is nearly done with modeling.
An array of Athletic Poses that I set up
Revisiting a render from the past
In the past I rendered this image but only with Scene Only mode. This time, I loaded up an environment HDRi and tried to get a cleaner lignting. The shadows are softer but the overall light is better. To get sharper cast shadows it might require upping the scene lights a degree... if I want to do that. Part of what is compelling about the image is the powerful shadow which represents pent-up internal energy, so I think I might want to.
This was only rendered for around an hour. In order to go full-render it will need to render overnight.
Previously:
It is interesting to compare the histograms of the two images:
Here is after taking the new image into Photoshop and doing a Image > Adjust > Match Color with the old image as the source. Kind of intense, but it laks a feeling of subsurface.
Just messing around
Love your lighthouse and magician!
Although the latter bears an unfortunate resemblance to Michael Jackson... The Tim Burton vibe is great, though!
@Hylas the MJ thing hadn't occurred to me. But I can see what you are saying. The lighthouse reminds me of places I have been in Oregon.
^__^
That HDRI adds a perfect diffuse light to compliment the flourescents in your Drewes scene. Reminds me of a local place down here by the lake where the lights are that same yellow. I can just imagine the crowded scene on a summer night - looking forward to seeing it all populated! I'm curious whether you plan to render with DOF? Also, your poses look spot on. Great work in this thread.

Totally agree about the MJ resemblance. Is that a D.Master character?

A bit of play with a Dojo setting (Dashi Hari) Foot Sweep.
Working on a dress for another proj. This is to fit a Genesis 2 figure.
Finished Dress
.A variation on the 1800's Dress
Empty Spaces
Anticipation
Need to find a good dforce skirt for this pose to get more natural effect.
Playing around with a pool setting and Ron's Underwater Air. Need to study the air bubbles a bit more to make it a litle more realistic as far as placement.
A walk by the waterfront
Doing a drawing based on the setup
