Complaint: Yesterday I was told by my doctor that I have the big "C". I am so not looking forward to whatever non-pleasurable crap I am going to have to go through over the next several months.

Non-Complaint: At least he didn't give me a time frame, for now.

Sorry, maybe I shouldn't have posted this, but others on the site wanted to know what my diagnosis was. I guess at this point I have a doom and gloom outlook on life, but hopefully things get better for me soon, which will probably be DAZ soon.

Moving on, there's nothing to see here but a broken-hearted 52 yr old man.

Okay enough of feeling sorry for myself. I will go back trying to make a funny here and there and still complain as usual.

    Off to work I go!

I'll be having a good thought for you now and always :)

Complaint and rant and bloggy thing all at once! :smirk:

This years keyword: SIMPLIFY. I built up too much crap again and am going on a selling spree over the next few months, reducing the number of things I have and replacing some old stuff with newer versions. Time to focus on just 3 things:Writing, Music (guitar/drums), and 3D art.. in that order! :gulp:

I've gotten my music OFF the computer 100% as of late last month, and the laptop I had loaned out has come home, so I'll dedicate the i5 system to visual arts, the Asus dual-core Pentium to writing, and I have a tablet PC coming in to replace my Android tablet. My old Dell D610 and my Vizio Android tablet will go on Craigslist, along with some effects pedals for my guitar that I no longer use (replaced 3 pedals with 1 device, w00t!).

I HATE having too much stuff! Seems like SOMETHING happens once a year that makes me move my stuff, and I have enough that it's become a pain in the fins to box and transport it all. Feh! Out with it all! :snake:

Gotta record some music, finish a novel, and produce some cover/backplate art and album art! That's a years worth of work right there! :ahhh: :bug:

Anyway, argh, cleaning up is coming and I'll flood Craigslist with goodies.

Bored bored bored, tired of reading manuals, YouTube is blocked so I can't watch guitar tutorials, and the Amazon Cloud Reader is acting up and some of my Kindle books aren't displaying right. I think I'll leave an hour early, I can afford it, go hit the bank and GO OUT! The weather is nasty but I'm tired of being stuck indoors!!!!! :ahhh:

I feel better now... rant over... :red: :red:

Hopes you partied hard and long :)

Yes it cooled down here as well. Very dry though, next week might be bad cos everything is real dry. In the middle of all the fuss about the weather there was a toxic chemical cloud floating around my 'hood by the river

I wrote the following rant before I saw Ledhead's announcement. Now this just seems like stupid whining on my part. But I already typed it up so here it is.

Hi! Been captured by Microsoft, and being held hostage by Windoze 8. Spent the last 2 days of my waking life banging my head against my new Samsung laptop and crying. I know you've all been there before. I finally felt sorry for my old beater and decided it would be cheaper to upgrade to a new machine than to further torture the old one.
The good news: I finally got just about everything going and ready for some Daz downloading and updating.
The bad news: Firefox is borked on pretty much all websites, so I'm having to use (choke) IE10. The absolute slowest at downloading images for the first time, and won't scroll while they do. :ahhh: Not to mention I'm using Thunderbird to get my email 'cause MicroDork thinks it best not to support their own Outlook Express anymore after Vista! Oh and even though it comes with Norton, when I upgraded to the subscription version I already own, IE10 doesn't want to play nice with it. It works, but it whines that Norton Internet Security is slowing down my searches...
All I need now is to be told the latest versions of Daz's free graphics programs won't work with Windoze 8 (even if it's true, please don't tell me.
I'm sure that Updates will fix all my problems and we can hold hands and sing "Kumbaya" real S^#n,

...this is why I downloaded and saved my FF updates before installing (the last being ver. 15) so that I can re-install one that I know will work.

Thunderbird is fairly good but can get a bit sluggish at times (have it on the system at the workplace). However it is still much better than Outlook which would constantly freeze up on me without notice and require firing up Task Manger to kill the process.

    Sticking with WIn7.

I am hoping once the dust settles and I have come to grips with what must be done, it will more than likely be just another day in the life of Roy, but at this point there is still too much of the unknown that I am having to cope with which can be overwhelming and disheartening. I appreciate all of the comments that you guys have given me. It really does help. Thank you so very much. In all honesty I have yet to cry or anything, so I think I am taking it as I should, although when my wife mentioned not being able to tell our grand kids about it because she is afraid they wouldn't take it very well, I almost broke down then. Luckily we were in a restaurant celebrating the not-so-great news otherwise I probably would have lost it.

Once again I really appreciate all of the concern everyone has shown me.

...been away for a bit (hence the flurry of posts while catching up on things).

Last of the meaningful bowl games are in the books and turned out well. Oregon romped on Kansas State in the Fiesta bowl and Texas A & M, led by Heisman Trophy (and freshman) quarterback Johnny Manziel, defeated Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl.

Tomorrow it's Packers and the Viqueens in the first round of the NFL playoffs. The one good thing, it's at the Frozen Tundra of Lambeau Field in Green Bay. We'll see how the wussy dome team handles real football weather (temps in the 20s instead of a climate controlled 70°).

    OK complaint time.

Learned today that apparently one of the major clients (the one for which I handle the fulfillment account billing for) will be severing ties with our company after thirty three years of business together. It has nothing to do with how we handled the account, but instead for economic and logistical reasons as most of their customers are in the eastern half of the country (4 - 5 UPS/FedEx shipping zones away) and they want their distribution hub to be more centralised. This of course was not very good news, especially after my living situation has been resolved (things worked out so I don't have to move - as long as I can remain employed that is).

As I cannot do a lot of heavy physical tasks due to my arthritis most likely I will be laid off. when this occurs in about a month an a half. The region here is still lagging behind the rest of the nation and the only jobs that are opening up are for those with highly specialised degrees in areas like software and network development.

SSI won't mature for another twelve years and have no retirement plan through the workplace. All my joking around about living in a "Cardboard Condo" may ironically come to pass.

...looks like I need those Megabucks numbers to come through for me now.

Once again playing Civilization IV. Sometimes with a friend, but usually solo. I remember two ex-members of this thread griping about something added in CivIV (I think it was a victory condition that changed, and the removal of the "Infinite City Sprawl" where cities did not cost any $$$ and thus you could cover even the North and South poles with useless cities without any negative impact), then literally fuming about CivV (And I was reading a gameplay overview by "Sulla" who beta-tested CivIV and stated how many HUGE steps it took past CivIII - especially in terms of AI Diplomacy no longer being utterly useless - but disliked a ton of stuff in CivV.), but I'm finding CivIV to be the best in the series (As a few other "I played since Day 1" people had stated).

I am somewhat intrigued by this expansion Civ2 had, that added dragons and I think dinosaurs to it, but reading about how utterly terrible the AI is in that I think I'll seek out a copy of it later XD

*ahem* Anyway... Also installed Fallout 3 on my laptop for the first time. My old laptop couldn't handle it at all, and my desktop could run it for hours with all the settings cranked up to maximum. My new laptop sits somewhere in the middle - it can run without issues even in combat with HDR and Medium-High settings, but it suffers from random "Total Lockups" that bring the rest of the computer down with it. Screen literally freezes, but music and ambient sounds persist normally. I can't Alt Tab or anything, since everything but the taskbar remains totally black. And Pulling up ProcessExplorer to nuke the crashed game doesn't do much good since the crashed game masks the program, so I can't see what process I'm about to kill (Which could do more harm than good).
It's fairly random and my first time experiencing it was while Saving (My save file DID succeed, however), second time was while entering a building (I lasted longer before it happened), and the third time was again when entering a ruined building (Lasted twice as long :P )
Isn't enough to keep me from playing it, but it's annoying. Add to this that my laptop has this annoying "media" thing which requires me to press this "special key:" before I can use any of the F1-12 buttons, and it makes quicksaving much more tedious >_<</p>

"If there is only one right choice, you're not looking at a strategy game. You are looking at a puzzle - to be solved once and then you're done with it!” ~Sirian, on CivIV

Haha wow just got through reading a playthrough by "Sulla" in CivV, and it really does seem like it's "Just Civ2/3 but with better graphics". All the AI and gameplay mechanics took two to four steps backwards while the graphics took a step forward XD
All the glaring and obvious flaws the AI had in II and III were back in V - many of which were fixed in IV.

Heh, CivIV can show up to 14+ leaders on the diplomacy screen but CivV can only show THREE o_O

While the guy had almost nothing but praise and overall good things to say about CivIV, he seems pretty mixed (With emphasis on negative feelings) about CivV =P

*EDIT* I also noticed I have three green boxes now... Took me long enough to see that =P
Do I get a cookie for this? :D
